On October 18, 2023, the opening ceremony of the third "the Belt and Road" forum International Cooperation was held in Beijing. Chinese President Xi Jinping opened the ceremony and delivered a keynote speech.

The third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation is the highest standard international event under the framework of the Belt and Road, with the theme of high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road and joint development and prosperity.This forum is not only the most grand event to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road initiative, but also an important platform for all parties to discuss and jointly build high-quality "the Belt and Road" cooperation.The forum was held in Beijing from October 17th to 18th, with over 140 world leaders attending.
In September and October 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed major initiatives to jointly build the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st Century Shanghai Silk Road" during his visits to Kazakhstan and Indonesia. The Chinese government has set up a leading group to promote the construction of the Belt and Road and set up a leading group office in the National Development and Reform Commission.In March 2015, China released the "Vision and Action for Promoting the Joint Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Shanghai Silk Road"; In May 2017, the first "the Belt and Road" International Cooperation Forum was successfully held in Beijing.
